Local estrogen therapy to the vagina/vulva is very helpful for women suffering from urinary and vaginal symptoms like urinary incontinence, frequent urinary infections, vaginal itching, burning and dryness as well as pain on sexual intercourse. This is known as vulvo-vaginal atrophy or genito-urinary syndrome of the menopause which is caused by very low estrogen levels. As well as complementing HRT, local estrogen is safe for women for whom systemic HRT is not recommended first line.
